Understanding the Role of Half-Yearly Exams in CBSE Board Marks

Many students wonder if half-yearly exam scores count towards their final board score. Under the CBSE assessment framework:

  • Class 10 & 12 Internal Assessment (20 Marks): Half-yearly and periodic tests form part of the 5-mark periodic assessment component. Best-of-scores between periodic tests and half-yearly exams are compiled by schools and uploaded directly to the CBSE Pariksha Sangam portal.
  • Class 9 & 11 Promotion Criteria: For non-board classes, half-yearly exams carry 30% to 40% weightage in final cumulative grade promotion.

How to Check Your CBSE Half-Yearly Result Online?

Because half-yearly exams are administered directly by individual schools rather than centralized CBSE servers, scorecards are published through institutional channels:

  1. School ERP / Mobile App: Log in to your school’s ERP portal (e.g. CampusCare, Entab, EduNext, Snap Homework, or school web portal) using your Student Admission Number and password.
  2. Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM): Schools schedule comprehensive PTMs in early October to distribute physical report cards and discuss academic intervention plans.
  3. Digital Report Card Download: Many modern schools publish digitally signed PDF report cards with detailed graphical percentile benchmarks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Does CBSE declare half-yearly results on cbseresults.nic.in?
No. Centralized portals only host annual Board and Compartment results. Half-yearly marks are published individually by respective affiliated schools.

Q2: What happens if I score low marks in CBSE half-yearly exams?
Half-yearly results serve primarily as diagnostic benchmarks. Use them to identify weaker subject chapters before pre-boards in December-January.
